I often think my life is impossible. I’m reading Job currently in my daily Bible reading. Granted, Job had a lot to lament about, but he could lament. Sometimes I must examine myself with a sense of humor about my own ability to lament. My angst is busyness, too many balls in the air, and a frequent confusion about where to put my time and energy.
I’m also reading Matthew:
“seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
This verse grounds me and orders my priorities. When asked how I juggle my life, I often respond, “grace of God.” It is His grace that enables me. And it is the discipline to seek Him first that cuts through the confusion of how to spend my time.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other” (Matthew 6:24a).
What rules us? What claims mastery over our time? All these things that we think are so important are not, without Him. Seek first the kingdom of God. There is found the quiet peace, joy, and confidence deep under the waves of a seemingly turbulent life.
God’s Word never returns void
Seeking Him first puts all the rest in its place, doesn't it? Well said!
